How to Keep a Positive Mindset

April 28, 2020

Keeping a positive mindset can feel difficult. Some days are better than others, some days it’s easier said than done. We all have those moments where we don’t even realize that we’re thinking negatively until we find ourselves in a bad mood. Here are some tips I’ve been following recently to train myself to switch my thoughts from negatives to positives.

Focus on the present

Overthinking the past or worrying about the future never ends well. You can’t change what you’ve done in the past & you can predict what’s going to happen in the future. but you can control what’s happening right now. Taking a minute to think before you act will help you to focus on the current situation & allow you to handle it appropriately.

It’s ok to admit that things suck right now

Trying to pretend everything is wonderful while it feels like the whole world is falling apart can be difficult. Learning to recognize that a situation sucks will allow you to focus on the positives in the situation. So like right now, we’re all stuck in lockdown, feeling like we’re going crazy. But we can use this time to spend time with our loved ones, drop a message to a friend you’ve been meaning to contact, get those chores done on your list that you never got around to.

Disconnect

As much as we love it, we have to admit that at times, social media can be very toxic to our mental health. Switching off from technology for a few hours a day can allow you to focus on the world around you.

If you continuously compete others, you become bitter, but if you continuously compete with yourself you become better.

Get Moving Outside

Get out for a walk, go for a run, this is a sure-fire way to change your mood. Working out at home is great especially since the gyms are currently shut. However, it’s still so important to get outdoors. Getting the fresh air and exercise that we need can help us think more clearly and positively. While on that walk try to find 5 things that you could be inspired by, that could be flowers, the sky, birds, whatever makes you stop and think, wow nature is really amazing.

Always keep learning

It’s so important to keep your brain engaged on a daily basis. Never allow yourself to stop learning new things. Whether it be through reading, videos, podcasts, online tutorials, or classes, there is an abundance of knowledge available at our fingertips. We have no excuse to stop learning.

Let me know if you have any tips that you do to help keep a positive mindset! While you’re here also, check out my post on taking time to be happy.

Until next time, Louise xo

One other thing I’ve found to help keep a positive attitude is managing my own expectations, I tend to have high expectations of everything and when they fail I struggle to stay positive, my husband helped me realise this is unhealthy.
    Great post, thanks for sharing.

Great post! I’ve been trying to stay as positive as possible during the lockdown, but it’s been tough. To be fair, I have been a little addicted to social media, and surprisingly, that hasn’t been impacting my mood in the most positive way. I’ll try to follow more of the suggestions here. Thanks!

I have found, much to my surprise, that admitting things suck is one of the best ways to find acceptance and move on! A lot of positivity comes pouring through when we are open to it. Thanks for sharing this.

Gorgeous photo!! I love this, it is so important to carry on exercising and learning throughout this time even if it doesn’t necessarily feel productive. And social media distancing, especially from news has been a saviour. Great post. Xxxx

Love the tips! Getting outside and keep learning are two techniques I use frequently! I know I need to make a better effort to unplug from social media/phone a bit more as well. I’ve also been trying really hard to avoid worrying about things that I have no control over. There are lots of those during this pandemic!

Worrying about the past or future is only makes things worse. I totally agree with you on disconnect because my friends have gone through it and she always takes time away from social media.

In my case it’s opposite I am much more comfortable with social media then people around me.lol. there’s only two way to live life either positive or negative. Negative will bring you nothing the word itself brings a No approach to life. But positive is plus if you’ll not gain anything there’s nothing to loose either you learn something from that experience. Babe thanks for such positive post. You Rock!!

One of my clients is a confidence coach and she’s always saying that we need to practice acceptance because we can’t change the past and we can’t control the future. Once we learn to embrace what we have and allow what will be to happen, we’ll all be much more contented. Love your point about always learning too, great post 🙂 Lisa

Love this! Staying positive is so important right now but like you said it’s ok to admit that things aren’t ok, everyone is coping differently and there’s a lot of uncontrollable stuff going on right now!

I think focusing on the present is KEY for me to keep a positive mindset. Otherwise my mind wanders and wanders and spirals and before I know it, I’ve wasted hours just worrying about things that may or may not even happen!

Love this advice! It really can be the little things sometimes which build us up – keeping moving and always learning is a great way to make sure you’re gaining something from your days and feeling good about yourself. The idea that things can, and do, suck is really important – it’s OK not to be OK! Thanks for sharing!
